3003 PVDF-Coated Aluminum Coils for Cladding System

Exterior cladding serves as the primary protective and decorative layer for building facades. Constantly exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, wind, rain, industrial pollutants, and fluctuating temperatures, the material’s weather resistance and dimensional stability are critical factors that determine the longevity of a building's appearance and its long-term maintenance costs. Aluminum coils AA3003 with a PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) fluorocarbon coating are the industry standard for high-end exterior cladding systems, offering an optimal balance of formability and exceptional, long-lasting weather resistance. As a professional supplier of coated aluminum coils, BCM Aluminum has specifically optimized coated aluminum coil products for applications such as roll-formed siding, dry-hung curtain walls, and facade detailing, providing reliable, high-quality coated aluminum materials to construction projects globally.

3003 PVDF-Coated Aluminum Coils for Cladding System

Technical specifications align with international standards for architectural exterior cladding. We utilize an AA3003-H14 aluminum-manganese alloy substrate, manufactured in accordance with the ASTM B209 standard, with a tensile strength of 140–180 MPa. Standard thicknesses range from 0.4 mm to 1.5 mm. Each coil undergoes precision multi-roller leveling to ensure superior flatness (≤0.3 mm/m). The coating utilizes a 70% PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) fluorocarbon resin system, applied via a dual-coat, dual-bake process. It complies with the AAMA 2605 standard—the highest benchmark for weather resistance—with a dry film thickness of ≥40μm on the exterior surface. The coating demonstrates a color difference (ΔE) of ≤2.0 after 2,000 hours of accelerated xenon-arc aging, shows no blistering or corrosion after 2,000 hours of neutral salt spray testing, and achieves a 4B rating for adhesion per ASTM D3359. These performance characteristics ensure long-term durability for exterior wall applications.

The 3003 coated aluminum coil, a aluminum-manganese alloy, is ideally suited for the processing and operational requirements of exterior cladding. Containing 1.0%–1.5% manganese, the alloy offers exceptional rust resistance, remaining corrosion-free throughout its service life in typical atmospheric conditions. In the H14 temper, it balances structural strength with excellent cold-forming plasticity, facilitating processes such as roll forming, bending, hemming, and punching. The material exhibits minimal spring-back after forming, resulting in crisp edges and a high degree of surface flatness. When installed via dry-hanging or overlapping methods, it ensures tight, precise joints and a uniform, consistent visual appearance. The material can be slit to precise widths—with tolerances controlled within ±0.2mm—to integrate directly into automated, continuous roll-forming production lines.

Regarding the coating, the PVDF fluorocarbon system—based on polyvinylidene fluoride resin—leverages the high bond energy of C-F chemical bonds to provide superior resistance to ultraviolet (UV) radiation and chemical corrosion. PVDF coated aluminum coil maintains color stability for 15–20 years in typical outdoor environments, effectively resisting degradation from coastal salt spray, industrial emissions, and acid rain. Production employs a fully automated, closed-loop color-matching system, ensuring a color difference (ΔE) of ≤1.0 within the same batch, which prevents visible color variations across large-scale facade installations. The dense, smooth surface of the coating provides a self-cleaning effect; rainwater easily washes away dust and grime, significantly reducing the frequency of high-altitude maintenance for the building exterior.

Drawing on extensive experience in supplying materials for exterior facade projects, we have identified two common issues in the selection of cladding material: color inconsistency between batches, which results in visible patches of varying shades on the facade; and cracking of the coating at bend points, which allows rainwater to penetrate and corrode the substrate. To mitigate these risks at the source, BCM provides a test report for color values and coating adhesion with every batch of products. In a 2024 project for a coastal commercial complex in Vancouver, Canada, BCM supplied 3003-H14 aluminum coils with a charcoal-gray PVDF coating. Despite the site’s exposure to high levels of salt spray and intense UV radiation, both batches of material passed the client’s inspection, resulting in a uniform appearance across the entire facade. Similarly, for an office building renovation in Arizona, USA—a region with over 300 days of sunshine annually—the same product series in light gray was used; after three years of service, the material shows no significant fading or chalking.

BCM Aluminum maintains a ready stock of standard specifications and colors of 3003 PVDF coated aluminum coil for exterior cladding. We offer custom sizing and Pantone color matching, along with sample testing and selection guidance. Standard orders are typically ready for shipment from the port within 7–10 days, ensuring a reliable supply chain and technical support for facade projects worldwide.
